Discussion of Xavier University of Louisiana's Admissions Standards
The admissions bar for Xavier University of Louisiana is not overly high, but applicants will need decent grades and test scores to be admitted. About a third of all applicants will not be accepted. In the graph above, the blue and green dots represent students who were admitted. Most had SAT scores (RW+M) of 900 or higher, an ACT composite of 17 or higher, and a high school average of a "C" or better. Grades and test scores above these lower ranges will improve your chances, and the majority of admitted students had grades up in the "A" and "B" range.
XULA has holistic admissions, so admissions are based on more than grades and test scores. Whether you use the Common Application or Xavier's own application, the university will want to see meaningful extracurricular activities and a positive letter of recommendation. If your grades or standardized test scores aren't ideal for admission to XULA, you'll want to make sure the person writing your recommendation can speak about your potential for college success.
Like most universities, your academic record will be the most important part of your application. XULA will want to see solid grades in college preparatory classes. At a minimum, the university wants to see sixteen credits that include four units of English, two units of math including algebra, one unit of science, one unit of social science, and eight units in language and other elective areas. If you're planning to go into a field that requires strong math skills (accounting, computer science, math, the natural sciences), the university prefers that you have completed four years of high school math including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Additional high school science courses are preferred for students planning to go study one of the natural sciences. Successful completion of Advanced Placement, Honors, IB, or Dual Enrollment courses will also impress the admissions folks, and strong grades on the exams can often earn you college credit.
